BDMS Attendance Secretary: 885-7365 ext.3137
A record of attendance is required by state law and is noted in a student's permanent record. All students are responsible for attending all classes, study halls, and assigned activities on a daily basis.
There is a high correlation between attendance and achievement. The richness of the classroom experience cannot be duplicated by doing the assignments on your own, Furthermore, Wisconsin State Statute 118.151 (a) mandates compulsory school attendance for all children until the end of the term in which they become 18 years of age or graduate. Attendance at school is primarily the responsibility of the student and the parent.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide reasons for their child's absence.
-
Parents/guardians are to call the school by 8:30 am on the day of the absence to explain the reason for their child's absence. Include your child's full name, the reason for the absence, and the date(s) you are excusing.
-
The attendance phone number (see above) is available 24 hours a day to accept calls.
-
If there is no contact between the school and parent/guardian within 48 hours of the absence, the absence will be marked unexcused and the student considered truant. Once a student’s absence is considered truant, it may not be excused unless by a medical professional.
-
If your child is not called in before 2:00 pm or they are marked unexcused during the school day they will be issued a pink unexcused absence sheet during homeroom the following morning. This is a reminder for students to get his/her absence excused before 2:00 pm the following day either by having a parent/guardian call in, provide a handwritten note from their parent/guardian with the reason they were gone, or provide a doctor’s note.

Morning Tardies
-
School doors open at 7:20 am for students to enter the building and go to either the cafeteria or auditorium. From 7:35 am - 7:40 am students are dismissed to go to their lockers to put their things away and get their materials for the first part of the day and head to homeroom. The bell rings at 7:40 am which signals students should be in their seat in homeroom.
-
Students who arrive late to school need to report to the main office with a note from a parent/guardian regarding the tardiness or a parent should have called in. The student will then be given a pass for going to their locker and admission into class. Late arrivals do count towards the 10 days allowed per state law for students to be absent.
-
Students who exhibit a pattern of being tardy to school will be assigned detentions or other appropriate consequences to makeup the time missed. Frequent tardiness to school will be referred to our SRO(School Resource Officer) and may result in a municipal citation.
School Day Tardies
During the school day a tardy at BDMS is defined as arrival to class within 5 minutes of the bell without an excused pass.
