Welcome to Beaver Dam Middle School! We are home to approximately 720 students in grades 6-8. We have a dedicated staff that focuses on student growth and school climate to ensure all students learn at high levels. This is accomplished by challenging every student to be the best version of themselves.
We believe that students deserve an education that will enhance their healthy growth as lifelong learners, ethical and democratic citizens, and increasingly competent, self-sufficient individuals who are optimistic about the future and prepared to succeed in our ever-changing world.
Middle school students go through incredible changes that are second in life stage development to children from birth to age three. As a middle school parent, you know that this includes tremendous physical, emotional, and mental capacity changes. In addition, students begin to develop strong beliefs in how they view the world.
The unique attributes of Middle Level children require a school that is different in its structures from both elementary and high schools. Beaver Dam Middle School adopts the guidelines of the publication This We Believe and the National Middle School Association. Therefore, we strive for our educational programs to be:
- Developmentally responsive: using the distinctive nature of young adolescents as the foundation upon which all decisions about school organization, policies, curriculum, instruction, and assessment are made.
- Challenging: ensuring that every student learns and every member of the learning community is held to high expectations.
- Empowering: providing all students with the knowledge and skills they need to take responsibility for their lives, to address life's challenges, to function successfully at all levels of society, and to be creators of knowledge.
- Equitable: advocating for and ensuring every student's right to learn and providing appropriately challenging and relevant learning opportunities for every student.
Middle School is an important and exciting time for students and we are excited to be part of this experience with your child! You can help us in our mission to ensure that all students learn at high levels by supporting your child and remaining engaged in their academic endeavors. This would include emphasizing the importance of regular attendance, staying organized, asking for help when needed, and putting forth one’s best effort.
